HCC Scholarship 2025 winner, Ben Lloyd James has completed his study and presented his findings in a report, entitled ‘From Knowledge to Action: Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Pasture-Based Beef and Sheep Systems.’

Ben set out to identify practical, farm-ready solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and investigated how other countries are closing the gap between knowing what needs to change and making the change. The purpose was not to identify a single solution, but to understand what is already working elsewhere, why it works, and what Wales can realistically learn from it.

By attending the European Grassland Federation Symposium in Reading and visiting research institutions, industry organisations and commercial farms in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland and the UK, he concluded that solutions do exist. Ben says: “The constraint is adoption, not knowledge. Across every country visited, the same principle emerged. Meaningful reductions in emissions can be achieved alongside, and often through, improved production efficiency.”
