On the weekend HCC staff joined the Food Education Network Brunch as part of the Abergavenny Food Festival. The event engaged those people who work with and engage young people in food; teach cooking and are passionate about how food grows; teach how to make meals and educate children and families about what healthy food looks like and are passionate about children being more connected where food comes from.<\/p>\n

HCC\u2019s Consumer Executive Elwen Roberts, who represented HCC on the day, was delighted to join the group of over 30 like-minded people and shared the work HCC does on behalf of levy payers in the education and health spheres.<\/p>\n

Organised by Kim Smith, Food Educator, Researcher and TastEd trustee, the event was held at Abergavenny Community Centre and was supported by the Office of the Future Generations Act Commissioner for Wales.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the event, Elwen said: \u201cThis was an excellent opportunity for us to share the positive story of red meat from Wales and the benefits it brings to health and wellbeing, as part of a balanced diet. We\u2019re passionate about educating all walks of life about PGI Welsh Lamb and PGI Welsh Beef and this event brought together people who are passionate about food education in all its forms.<\/p>\n

\u201cFood, including red meat from Wales such as Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, is key to a sustainable future, that delivers economically, culturally, environmentally and also takes our social well-being into account.<\/p>\n

\u201cEquipping children with skills and knowledge about how their food is produced, where it comes from and how a varied diet is essential in keeping fit and healthy, is an element of our work we carry out on behalf of levy payers -and it matters a great deal in so many ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
