Responding to the report\u2019s publication, a HCC spokesperson said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome the Senedd committee\u2019s work in this area and the publication of \u2018Bring home the harvest: supporting the Welsh food processing industry\u2019<\/em>. In particular, the recommendation which seeks to look at how Welsh Government and wider stakeholders can support Welsh abattoirs and food producers to ensure relatively low carbon Welsh meat can be served to consumers, to avoid destocking Welsh farms but importing lower quality, lower welfare and higher carbon meat.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also welcome the fact that the committee has highlighted the criticality of livestock numbers to the sustainability of a thriving red meat industry in Wales and in particular the recommendation to consider schemes that directly support livestock numbers.<\/p>\n
