<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Last week, HCC\u2019s Dr Eleri Thomas attended the British and Irish Society of Animal Science\u2019s (BISAS) annual conference where she delivered a presentation on HCC\u2019s involvement in research and development projects.<\/p>\n
The conference theme was \u2018Animal Science: industry & academia supporting livestock production in sustainable food systems\u2019, with a spotlight placed on the vital synergy between researchers and industry.<\/p>\n
Dr Thomas said: \u201cIt was a fitting event for me to attend to outline the exciting industry projects in HCC\u2019s research portfolio. These include Phase 2 of the Welsh Sheep Genetics Programme, the UK-wide Environment Baselining Pilot, LUNZ Grassland and Smart Nutrient Cymru. These collaborative projects focus on different aspects of agriculture and food production but have the same aim, which is to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the sector for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
The session headlined by Dr Thomas was co-sponsored by HCC and the NSA which looked at the effects of genetics and nutrition on the performance of small ruminants.<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cThe audience consisted of other industry organisations, researchers and academics who were all invested in the development of animal science and livestock production. There was a general agreement that evidence and data is essential for fostering innovation and sustainable solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n
