Delivered by HCC, it is designed to help breeders enhance productivity, efficiency and environmental performance, while supporting informed, evidence-based breeding decisions.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will receive practical, technical and financial support to help them make the most of long-term genetic improvements. The programme will also build on an existing dataset originally developed through the Hill Ram Scheme (previously delivered by HCC) and Phase 1 of the WSG (previously delivered by Farming Connect).<\/p>\n<p>Farmers who join WSG will benefit from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fully funded lamb genotyping for DNA-based parentage identification<\/li>\n<li>Funded genetic evaluations and ultrasonic backfat scanning<\/li>\n<li>Performance benchmarking of their stock<\/li>\n<li>Access to world-leading genetic and genomic technologies<\/li>\n<li>Guidance and support with manual and DNA pedigree recording<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>HCC\u2019s Industry Efficiency and Sustainability Executive, Dr Eleri Thomas said: \u201cIf you\u2019d like to benefit from this support and use genomics to develop your sheep flock, make a note in your diary on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> of July which is when the window opens to express your interest in joining the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The work will focus on developing robust key performance indicators, tailored farm-level action plans, and a range of research initiatives aimed at driving innovation within the sector.<\/p>\n<p>The genetic information collected will enhance industry benchmarking and support long-term business planning, ultimately strengthening supply chains, product presentation, and the marketing potential of breeder flocks.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, contact HCC directly for more information &#8211; info@hybucig.cymru or 01970 625050.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From 1 July, farmers are invited to register their interest in joining Welsh Sheep Genetics (WSG) for Phase 2 of the project.
