Welsh Lamb Meat Quality Project

Developing a blueprint for the whole supply chain to ensure that we deliver top taste consistency to consumers of PGI Welsh Lamb.

PGI Welsh Lamb already has an envied reputation around the world for quality. The Welsh Lamb Meat Quality Project aims to enhance this further, keeping our produce ahead of the game.

This project will apply the latest research to the stakeholder supply chain practices that exert influence on meat variations and eating quality

Up to 2,000 consumers will be recruited to learning journey sessions where they assess, in monitored trials, Welsh Lamb’s tenderness, juiciness, flavour and aroma and, in addition, discover more about its nutritional values and its sustainability credentials

The project will scientifically analyse each sample, carefully match them to the collected consumer responses and report the detailed findings to stakeholders to enhance and benefit future supply chain practices

Working with farmers and vets to promote proactive flock and herd health management, to help Wales lead the world in animal welfare, sustainability and efficiency.
