Innovative meat products to provide tasty treat for Show-goers

Visitors to the Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) stand at the Royal Welsh Show will get a chance to get a sneak preview of some of the newest meaty treats on the market.

HCC’s New Product Showcase will display the latest creations by a number of leading Welsh companies who are at the cutting edge of developing new products for the retail market. Delicious pies, burgers and charcuterie will be prepared and cooked up in HCC’s on-site kitchen, and served to the public at 12:30 on Tuesday 25 July.

Wrexham-based Village Bakery is one of the companies represented, who will be showcasing their Chuck Steak Pie, a shortcrust pie filled with tender Welsh chuck steak, cooked in a rich gravy.

Village Bakery’s Catherine Bletcher said: “Our pies have been perfected using our own in-house pastry and prime cuts of meat. We use the finest ingredients, including only PGI Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef, and through our local sourcing policywe look to source the best products from the local area. We’re looking forward to being part of the showcase on the HCC stand at the Royal Welsh Show.”

Other companies attending include Gwella from near Aberystwyth, who produce innovative cured Welsh Lamb products, and Family Farms – Ffermydd Teuluol from Gwynedd who are developing Welsh Lamb in versatile quick-cook formats.

“There are a number of smaller companies doing interesting work in developing new PGI Welsh Beef, Welsh Lamb and pork products for retailers’ shelves,” said HCC’s Marketing Manager Rhys Llywelyn.

“Adding value to all cuts of meat is an important way to ensure returns to everyone in the production chain,” he added. “There will be products on show which are designed with the modern consumer in mind, and show off the product development taking place in Wales.”

“It’s a great chance for the public to get a sneak preview of some new flavours,” said Rhys. “I’m looking forward very much to tasting all the new products that innovative producers will be showcasing on our stand on Tuesday!”Visitors to the Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) stand at the Royal Welsh Show will get a chance to get a sneak preview of some of the newest meaty treats on the market.
