The future of farming and the agricultural sector in Wales was discussed in a lively seminar at the Royal Welsh Show hosted jointly by HCC and Wales YFC.

HCC’s Rachael Madeley-Davies joined the panel discussion which was chaired by HCC Scholar and Agri Supply Chain Advisor Alison Harvey. Other panellists included: Angharad Thomas, Wales YFC Rural Affairs Chair; Dominic Hampson-Smith, Wales YFC Rural Affairs Vice Chair; Teleri Glyn Jones, BBC Political Reporter and Chair of RWAS Future Generations Committee and Cain Owen, Development Officer at Anglesey Agricultural Society and RWAS Future Generations Committee member.

The panel covered a wide range of topics in the seminar, including: current and future agri policy, the role of rural communities in Welsh culture, the importance of collaboration across sectors, the art of trying and failing and working with and influencing older generations.

HCC’s Head of Sustainability Rachael Madeley Davies commented during the panel “We are well placed in Wales to do fantastic things. We produce sustainable food in the natural environmental. We need to be open-minded, positive and supportive about the future.”

A big thank you goes to all of the panellists and Wales YFC for jointly hosting as well as all who were able to join on the day.
