An annual bible of agricultural data has been newly released by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).
From cover to cover, The Little Book of Meat Facts - Compendium of Welsh Red Meat and Livestock Statistics 2025, is packed with general industry figures and a section each for the cattle, sheep and pig sectors.
It reports that there were 37,000 agricultural holdings in Wales in 2024, covering a total land area of 1,775,000 hectares. Cattle and sheep (LFA) holdings accounted for the highest share of Welsh holdings – 15.7% of the total – each with an average farm business income of £28,500 in 2023/24.
HCC’s Intelligence, Business and Insight Executive, Glesni Phillips has been responsible for pulling the data together for the publication. She said: “Our compact compendium is useful for anyone involved or interested in agriculture. It pieces together a comprehensive picture of the industry, and drills down on the sheep, beef and pig sectors for a closer look at red meat production levels and consumer trends.
“Within its covers you will also find information on livestock numbers, throughput levels, export and import data, market prices, retailer volume shares and sales figures, as well as consumer purchasing patterns – everything you would need to know about this important industry here in Wales.”
Hard copies of the publication are available by contacting HCC, or can be downloaded from the HCC website.
