Visitors to the Royal Welsh Show are invited to discover the latest cattle services available through EIDCymru, Wales's online livestock movement traceability service.
Already familiar to sheep keepers across Wales, EIDCymru now offers services for cattle keepers, and the EIDCymru team will be on hand at the show to provide information, answer questions and help farmers create their cattle accounts.
Since 1 July 2026, cattle keepers in Wales have been able to register with EIDCymru to check their BVD (Bovine Viral Diarrhoea) status and view both herd and animal status information. The new EIDCymru system is designed to collate and disseminate Welsh BVD test results allowing cattle keepers and vets to reduce the risk of BVD on their holdings. This industry led incentive demonstrates how farmers, veterinary professionals and government can work together to monitor herd health and to support the eradication of the disease throughout Wales.
To make registration as straightforward as possible, EIDCymru have produced step-by-step videos to guide farmers through the account creation process. These can be viewed on the EIDCymru YouTube channel: EIDCymru - YouTube
EIDCymru Lead, Gwion Aeron, said: "We encourage all cattle keepers in Wales to create a cattle account on the EIDCymru website to gain access to their BVD results.”
The BVD system is built on the same platform which will support the cattle registration, movements and deaths services that will be transferred from British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) to EIDCymru. The EIDCymru Cattle Service is being delivered in a series of phases to reduce risks to Welsh and GB cattle traceability, minimise the burden of change on industry, and ensure appropriate support is available throughout implementation. By registering for the EIDCymru BVD service now, keepers will already be registered for the cattle services once BCMS transfers to EIDCymru.
Gwion added: "For now, the key change for farmers is that BVD status information is available online through EIDCymru. It sits alongside the online sheep, goat and deer movement reporting services which are already available.
"The Royal Welsh Show provides an ideal opportunity for cattle keepers to learn more about the upcoming changes, see how the system works and ensure they are prepared well in advance of the transition. If you have any questions, concerns or would simply like support with setting up your sheep or cattle account, please come and visit us at the Royal Welsh Show. Our dedicated team will be happy to help."
