Consumers in Wales will be able to celebrate St David’s Day with hyper local, sustainably produced Welsh Lamb in the gastro pub sector, thanks to a special marketing effort by Hybu Cig Cymru- Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).

Traditionally known as the “feast day of Saint David”, March 1st has been a day of celebration in Wales since the 12th century. Understanding the cultural importance of the day, HCC has been leading the way in working with the Hotel, Restaurant and Catering (HoReCa) sector to ensure Welsh Lamb features prominently on menus in participating outlets and that pubs are making the most out of the opportunity that this key occasion provides.

HCC’s Head of Strategic Marketing and Connections Laura Pickup said: “St David’s Day is all about getting into the Welsh spirit so when it comes to eating out, consumers want their food choices to reflect this and will be looking for menus which authentically reflect the day.

“Our teams have been working closely with the pub and restaurant sector to ensure Welsh Lamb has a place at the table this St David's day. Such engagement work is critical for us as it ensures further trading opportunities here at home, which go hand in hand with the other market development and promotional work HCC does on behalf of levy payers abroad.”
