The HCC team has been out and about in recent weeks, representing the Welsh red meat industry at conferences and events.

Dr Heather McCalman, HCC’s Research, Development and Sustainability Executive attended the British Society of Animal Science (BSAS) Conference in Galway where she presented information on HCC’s vital Research and Development activity.  This includes involvement in a number of UK-wide industry projects including RamCompare, GrassCheckGB and Breeding Better Beef and Sheep. These projects aim to support the red meat supply chain to tackle industry challenges by looking to improve genetics, grassland management and help producers to develop breeding strategies that reduce greenhouse gases.

During May, HCC and Farming Connect toured some of the agricultural colleges across Wales to connect with the next generation of producers.  Updates were provided on the important work being done to champion Welsh farming and promote sustainable agriculture for the future.

The sessions were an opportunity to explain and discuss HCC’s marketing work and highlight the current research and development projects to an audience of future farmers, whilst Farming Connect showcased the support available for producers in Wales.  The tour consisted of three stops at Coleg Penybont - Bridgend College (Pencoed campus), Coleg Sir Gâr (Gelliaur campus), and NPTC Group (Fronlas Farm), and we hope to visit the colleges in north Wales in the near future.
